What would you think if middle school and high school started at 9 or 9:30? What? You don't like that idea? It messes with your schedule? It would be inconvenient for you? Well, it's actually MUCH better for your kids. Now what do you say? I've got the story in the link below.

Also, we only THINK we hate waiting. It turns out that sometimes it's good for us, and not all waiting is the same. Interesting story, and you'll find it in the link down there.

Plus, the reasons why you lose friends as you age, how monkeys don't own any selfies that they take, and video of a robot riding a hovercraft. I mean, how could it get any better than this?

Follow this digital pathway and you'll be quickly getting your nerd on. And you'll thank me.

Think you're addicted to coffee? Gotta have it every morning, right? Otherwise you're useless. Well, what if it's not the coffee that you're hooked on, but the routine of making it? Cool stuff, and I've got details in the link below.

Plus, science is always trying to come up with new ways for personal identification. Forget about retina scans - how about a device that recognizes your body odor? Or your veins? Think I'm kidding? I'm not. The story is in the link below.

And some other cool things this week: How Twitter helped to identify restaurants that served up food poisoning, how to get by on the pitiful amount of sleep you're getting, and a gigantic fart machine that will make you laugh - unless you have no soul whatsoever.

Check it all out by tripping down this digital pathway, and get ready to get your nerd on.

Hollywood has funny ideas about what happens when you step outside the Millennium Falcon without your helmet. But, alas, Hollywood usually gets it wrong. No, you won't explode, but it's still incredibly unpleasant. Want the deets? I've got 'em for you in the link below.

The movie Jaws started our real fascination with sharks, and Shark Week on television owes its ratings success to fear. But how many people actually die from shark attacks? And would you believe there are at least half-a-dozen other things in the ocean that are MUCH deadlier than sharks? See that link below for a fun video about it.

Plus, cat lovers have a new reason to strut: something in cat poop might help cancer patients. I also have a story about vibrating shoes that will help you find your way around town.

News For Nerds is really for all the cool kids. If you wanna get your nerd on, just follow this digital link and share it with your friends, yo.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
by Eckhart Tolle

I loved this book and when I read it for the first time a few years ago, it honestly changed my life and my approach to dealing with other people.
Admittedly, like most women, I've read a lot of "self-help", "spiritual insight" books and this is one of the best I have ever read. It's one that I keep around for little refresher courses when I need them.

If you have kids in middle school, tell them about Storymakers. It's a fun writing contest from Rocky Mountain PBS, and sponsored by CenturyLink.

It's open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Colorado, and includes a workshop in the fall and a big celebration luncheon in January, hosted by Dom from The Dom and Jane Show.

Here's a link to get all the info:  http://www.rmpbs.org/storymakers/

I’ve never opened a review by mentioning parking, but it demands to be addressed in the first paragraph. After more than 15 years of reviewing cars, the RAM 3500 is the first  one where I had to plan where I would park the vehicle before I even left the house.

There you go. Now you have an idea of just how big this truck is.

It’s not like the heavy-duty truck category is crowded - there are only a handful for you to choose from - but it is intensely competitive. All it takes is a tweak here and a shift there for one manufacturer to suddenly crow that they’re the best haulin’/hardest workin’ man's-man-of-a-truck in the history of pickin’-em-up.

The way to our hearts in through our stomachs, and we sure do love Caitlin's. We feasted on scrambled eggs and sausage, and Dom will be the first one to tell you Caitlin's has the best hash browns in town. They are a family restaurant located in Glendale, near Colorado Boulevard and Mississippi. Stop in, enjoy breakfast or lunch, check out their patio, and soon you too will love Caitlin's.

The Dodge Journey has its work cut out for it. The small-to-midsize crossover SUV really wants to compete against some of the leaders in the category - and it does an admirable job when you get right down to it - but this is a segment of the car world that has some tough opponents.

For starters, let’s point out that buyers who are anxious for a third-row of seats have a viable option here. Granted, that third row is really only practical for little kids, but when you’re seating seven there’s a pretty good chance that’ll include some little people.

Plus, you can choose built-in booster seats in the second row, which many families love.

Unbroken
By Laura Hillenbrand

Reviewed by Dom

You think you’ve had a bad day. You were late for work, one of your kids is sick, and the boss just moved a deadline up by two weeks. You’re aggravated and angry, and life just isn’t fair.

You need to read Unbroken. You need to read it immediately.

I’d read Laura Hillenbrand’s first hit book, Seabiscuit, so I knew she could tell a tale that made you feel like you were right there. With Unbroken, you’ll have the same feeling . . . which, during much of the book, is chilling.
