There was a time when the soundtrack ruled. They were an epic extension of a movie, and sometimes they were even better than the film itself. At one point, I think my personal CD collection was equal parts albums and soundtracks. I mean, The Lion King. (Shut up, you know you had it.) Pulp Fiction. Grease. Purple Rain. Saturday Night Fever. Shall I go on?
But then the mid-2000s came, and iTunes happened, and soundtracks kinda went the way of the dodo. Sigh. It was good while it lasted.
Imagine my utter shock and delight when I recently stumbled upon an article praising the new soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy. Whaaa what??! Soundtracks are relevant again? (And hot damn, the GotG mix is pretty bitchin.)
So it got me reminiscing about my soundtrack collection, and all the joy those masterful blends brought me, and I said, “I’m gonna compile a list of my favorites and blog about it! Bam!” So here we are. On my blog. With a list of my soundtrack faves.
When I tell my friends this is one of my fave MJ songs, they look at me with pity and shock and say, “The Free Willy song??!” Yes. That one.
This movie made all of us experts of the Fujita Scale.
She made that platinum swim cap look good.
This soundtrack was a rite of passage.
To this day, I still think this is one of the coolest songs ever. (Bonus, this Batman soundtrack also had Jewel on it, and ya’ll know how much I heart her.)
In the 8th grade, I had a crush on a boy named Jason. I played this song over and over and ooooover and thought of him.
I grew up with this song. He was Cat back then.
(Almost Famous, by the way.)
Don’t judge me. This song makes my heart sing.
I j'adore this mix. Even a courtesan deserves love.
I think this soundtrack was better than the movie.
“But I wipe my own ass!”
Short and sweet and so 90s it hurts.
