Dom in the Morning

The Jane Report

It's Miley Gate.

One lone voice.  Joe Levy, a TV critic for Billboard Magazine says Miley Cyrus did her job.

Jay Leno joked last night about Miley Cyrus and her crazy VMAs performance.  He remembers back to a time when the craziest thing a Cyrus family member would shake was their mullet.
Brooke Shields was a guest co-host yesterday on the "Today" show, and she started off, (of course), by talking about Miley Cyrus at the VMAs.  If you're younger than Miley Cyrus, you remember that Brooke Shields actually played Miley's mom on "Hannah Montana".  Like a lot of people, she didn't approve of what she saw on Sunday.  She said it was, quote, "desperate," and she said Miley was trying to be like Lady Gaga.  But she failed because Lady Gaga has other messages she's trying to communicate with her stage shows, and Miley was just trying to shock people.
Besides Shields, pretty much everybody on morning television was talking about Miley Cyrus yesterday.  Including the folks on MSNBC's "Morning Joe", which no one ever pays attention to anyway.  But yesterday Mika Brzezinski went off on this huge rant about Miley's performance at the VMAs.  It really got pretty personal.  She said it was, quote, "really, really disturbing." She suggested that Miley had both an eating disorder and a MENTAL disorder.  She was angry at MTV for even putting Miley on stage.  And Joe Scarborough tried to get a word in a few times, and she just kept talking right over him.  Mika was the one who got Russell Brand all irritated a few weeks ago, to the point where he called her a, quote, "shaft-grasper."
Kate Gosselin has just filed a massive lawsuit against her ex-husband Jon Gosselin -- claiming he hacked into her personal computer and bank accounts in order to expose her darkest secrets ... all for a tell-all book.  The book is called "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World" -- written last year by Jon's business partner and tabloid journalist Rob Hoffman -- and Kate claims the bulk of the book's dirt was illegally obtained.  Kate claims the book has since been removed from major distributors like Amazon as a result of its nefarious origins ... but the real dirt is Kate's allegations against her ex.  Kate says Jon stopped at nothing to dig the skeletons out of her closet -- funneling Rob personal information after hacking into Kate's email accounts, and stealing her confidential bank and phone records -- even pilfering her hard drive right out of her personal computer.  She's suing for invasion of privacy, identity theft, and a bunch of other stuff, demanding unspecified damages ... possibly even millions.
Madonna came in at No. 1 on Forbes' list of the top-earning celebrities for the period of June 2012 to June 2013, surpassing the likes of director Steven Spielberg and music mogul Simon Cowell. The $125 million the magazine estimated the 55-year-old Queen of Pop made was largely due to the massive success of her MDNA world tour, which grossed a whopping $305 million. That's in spite of her album of the same name flopping on the charts, selling less than a million copies in the U.S.  Also helping Madonna reach the milestone was the trek's merchandise sales as well as the big bucks she's made recently off such business endeavors as her fragrance, fashion line and various investments.  Her nearest rival was Spielberg who raked in $100 million thanks to the box office hit that was his most recent film, Lincoln, along with royalties he earns from his library of movies and the percentage he gets from ticket sales at Universal's theme parks.  Trailing the famed filmmaker and tied in third, fourth and fifth place respectively with $95 million in the bank was Cowell, 50 Shades of Grey author E.L. James, and Howard Stern.

Forbes' Top 10 Highest-Earning Celebrities for 2013
1. Madonna
2. Steven Spielberg
3. Simon Cowell
4. E.L. James
5. Howard Stern
6. James Patterson
7. Glenn Beck
8. Michael Bay
9. Jerry Bruckheimer
10. Lady Gaga

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have weathered a lot together (his cancer; her bipolar disorder; his son's struggles), but their 13-year marriage may be kaput. The Mirror cites multiple reports claiming a divorce is imminent. One such report in the Daily Star claims Douglas is the one who wants the divorce while Zeta-Jones is fighting to salvage their union; another reportedly claims it's the other way around.  Says a Douglas spokesman, "I won't talk about that."  The meatiest report is in Celeb Dirty Laundry, which cites the upcoming print edition of Star magazine. Supposedly, Douglas thinks Zeta-Jones is unstable and shouldn't be "calling all of the shots" in their marriage, and last week he reportedly took their two kids to Germany against her wishes. The two have not been photographed together for four months, and they've already denied rumors of marital problems earlier this year.
