The Jane Report

David Letterman talked about the twentieth anniversary of "The Late Show."  He said people are constantly confusing him for Arsenio Hall and Conan O'Brien.
20 years ago Bill Murray was the first guest ever on "Late Show", and last night he came back to help David Letterman celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show.  He came into the studio dressed up as Liberace, complete with a fur cape, a white Rolls Royce, and a puppy.  And then he sang Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You".

Nick Cannon got asked the other day about Miley Cyrus twerking at the VMAs.  He said she can do whatever she wants, but she might need some outside assistance.  He says he wants to start an "A** for Miley" fund.  On the other hand, he calls Lady Gaga's backside a, quote, "twerking machine."
One guy who is NOT down with Miley Cyrus' performance last weekend at the "VMAs" is Steve Chmelar.  Who is Steve Chmelar, you ask?  He's the guy who invented one of Miley's new favorite props . . . the FOAM FINGER.  He came up with it back in 1971, when he was only 16 years old.  He's 59 now.  And here's what he thinks of how Miley used it . . . quote, "I would say that it certainly misrepresented its intent to encourage team support.  She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it."  Chmelar thinks the foam finger will endure . . . and believe it or not, he hopes Miley will do the same.  He says, quote, "Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident.  As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive."
Fergie's taking the phrase "sweet child o' mine" to a new level ... naming her brand new son after Guns 'N Roses singer Axl Rose.  Fergie's rep says Axl Jack Duhamel was born healthy this morning at 7 pounds 10 ounces.  Fergie underwent a c-section procedure at an L.A. hospital -- and as we reported, the 38-year-old singer will be recuperating in style, staying in one of the V.I.P. suites famously used by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Dwight Howard.  The name doesn't feel like a coincidence ... you'll recall Fergie performed the Guns 'N Roses hit "Sweet Child O' Mine" at the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show.
Clint Eastwood's marriage has gone from the good, the bad, to the ugly ... the 83-year-old actor has separated from his wife of 17 years.  48-year-old Dina Eastwood -- Clint's second wife -- said the two remain close but have been living apart now for some time. Dina and Clint were married in 1996 and have one daughter together, 16-year-old Morgan. Clint has seven other children from previous relationships. Clint and Dina's marriage has been on the rocks for a long time, and Dina was so upset about her crumbling relationship that she entered rehab for depression and anxiety.
Earlier this year, 74-year-old TV legend Valerie Harper was given just a few MONTHS TO LIVE.  But that might not be the case anymore.  Her doctor says, quote, "I'd say that we're getting pretty close to a remission.  It defies the odds."  Valerie noted that her cancer isn't curable so it'll just have to be MANAGED.  But still, her prognosis seems like it's a lot better than it was.
David Schwimmer's neighbors in New York City's East Village are NOT happy with him because he bought a house there just to tear it down and build a NEW house.  In fact, earlier this week, someone spraypainted "Ross Is Not Cool" outside the place. The problem is that the house he tore down was built in 1852.  It was the oldest home on the block and one of the finest in the whole area.  It was even being considered for landmark status.  Other notes have been left on the property in the past, including, "The destruction of an irreplaceable historic building for what???" and "[Eff] you + your uglyness."  And one neighbor says, quote, "He paid a pretty penny and built some shiny silver thing.  He's like a wart on the block.  He doesn't belong here."
It's hard to believe that Twitter has only been around for seven years.  It was created in 2006.  And when Miley Cyrus whored it up at the "VMAs", it set a new record for most Tweets per minute . . . 360,000. With that in mind, the Huffington Post put together a list of 12 Celebrity Scandals That Would Have Broken Twitter... if Twitter had existed at the time:

Madonna's "Like a Virgin" performance at the 1984 "VMAs"
Roseanne Barr's screeching, crotch-grabbing rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at a 1990 San Diego Padres game
Milli Vanilli's lip-syncing scandal in 1990
Pee Wee Herman's arrest for indecent exposure in 1991
Sinead O'Connor tearing a photo of the pope on "Saturday Night Live" in 1992
Hugh Grant's arrest after being caught with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown in 1995
O.J. Simpson's acquittal after lengthy murder trial in 1995
Michael Jackson dangling baby son over balcony in 2002
Madonna's lip-lock with Britney Spears at the 2003 "VMAs"
