The Jane Report

by Dom and Jane posted Aug 19 2013 6:55AM

Lindsay Lohan's big interview with Oprah Winfrey aired last night.  She started off talking about what it was like in rehab. She says she feels really good, and it's been strange trying to get back to her life after being confined for three months.  She also says she liked the place in Malibu because they would let her take hikes.
Lindsay shared why she thinks this last rehab stint will work, when all the others didn't.  She says this is the first time she really stopped and listened, and realized that other people might be able to help her.

All that Oprah publicity must have paid off because "The Butler" took the #1 spot at the box office this weekend with $25 million.  The other new movies weren't even in the race.  Ashton Kutcher's "Jobs" finished in 7th place with just $6.7 million. And the Liam Hemsworth thriller "Paranoia" flopped with an embarrassing $3.5 million in 13th place.
Katie Couric really put her foot in her mouth last week, and Kim Kardashian called her on it.  During an interview, Katie was discussing the Kardashians and she said, quote, "I don't understand . . . why are they so famous?  I think it's mostly teenage girls that are interested."  On Friday, Kim fired back by posting a picture of the pajamas that Katie had recently sent Kim and Kanye West as a baby gift.  She also posted Katie's note, which congratulated them on the birth of the baby, and added, quote, "And may I humbly suggest you continue the K tradition."
Kanye West's most recent smackdown with the paparazzi at the Los Angeles airport won't result in a felony charge, prosecutors said.  In the July 19 incident, West scuffled with a photographer who staked out the airport to snap photos. The pap pack routinely hang out at LAX to snag the comings and goings of celebs.  Videos showed West lunging at a photographer's camera and trying to wrestle it away. This was after a videographer followed him through the airport and out the door, pleading with West to talk to him, while West remained silent and glared. Just before getting in his car, he turned on the pap.  A week before, he had demanded photographers leave him alone and get their cameras out of his face as he walked through the airport. Prosecutors say the photographer in this latest case did not have a significant injury; his camera wasn't stolen, and it's not clear it was even damaged. They also say no weapon was used and West doesn't have a felony record.

The DA's decision is good news for West, But it also suggests another amplification of California's continuing exasperation with the paparazzi. Complaints from their celebrity targets are mounting again, especially from those whose young children have been stalked by photographers.  It’s Not clear whether this new law will pass — hundreds of news organizations and not just paparazzi are opposed to it on First Amendment grounds — or if it does pass, whether it will survive inevitable constitutional challenges.  But it's a signal of the difficulties of balancing kids' privacy and a free press in a democracy with a First Amendment, unlike, say, in France. The debate is not going away.
There's still no official word on whether or not Jennifer Lopez is returning to "American Idol" next season... but her boyfriend Casper Smart appears to have let the cat out of the bag. E! News recently asked Casper if J-Lo was coming back to "Idol", and he responded, quote, "Yes."
Robin Thicke has sued Marvin Gaye's family and Funkadelic... for entertaining the notion that "Blurred Lines" rips off Marvin's song "Got to Give It Up", and Funkadelic's "Sexy Ways".  Pharrell Williams and T.I., who collaborated on the song, are also collaborating on the lawsuit.  The three of them say they have, quote, "the utmost respect for and admiration of Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic and their musical legacies . . . [but must] reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims."  The suit argues Gaye's family is broadly laying claim to, quote, "an entire genre, as opposed to a specific work."  It goes on, quote, "The basis of the Gaye defendants' claims is that [they] 'feel' or 'sound' the same.  Being reminiscent of a 'sound' is not copyright infringement.  The intent in producing 'Blurred Lines' was to evoke an era . . ."There are no similarities between plaintiffs' composition and those the claimants allege they own, other than commonplace musical elements.

Plaintiffs created a hit and did it without copying anyone else's composition."  For the record, nobody has threatened to sue Robin over the song . . . he's doing this as a preventive measure because he's worried they might.  There's been no comment from Gaye's family . . . or anyone from Funkadelic.
Dear celebs, take a lesson from your God Al Pacino ... the legendary actor was slapped with a tax lien and then immediately PAID IT OFF ... like you're supposed to do.  The State of CA hit Pacino with the lien in May, claiming he still owed $31,706.04 in back taxes for the years 2009 and 2011. Rather than sit on the debt like some celebs, Pacino took action and cut a check ... like a champ.  The lien was officially released on July 31. And that's how it's done.
