Ben Affleck is Batman.  The actor will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming untitled Batman-Superman feature for Warner Bros., the studio announced Thursday.  Affleck becomes the eighth actor to play the Caped Crusader, following Bale, George Clooney and Michael Keaton.  “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement. Directed by “Man of Steel” filmmaker Zack Snyder, the Batman-Superman feature will open worldwide on July 17, 2015, with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Diane Lane reprising their roles.  “Man of Steel,” which opened this past June, has earned over $650 million at the global box office.

From a preview of Kanye West's appearance on "The Kris Jenner Show" today, Kanye talked about why he's with Kim Kardashian.  He said a lot of people think it's weird because she's constantly in the spotlight, but he likes to lead a very private life.  He said Kim is his "joy," and he loves and cares about her, which is why they're together.
Singer Kelly Clarkson took to her Twitter today to deny rumors that she's expecting a child with her soon-to-be hubby Brandon Blackstock. The pregnancy news began swirling on the Interwebs after a Virginia radio station mistakenly reported the news (and then took it down), however the story seemed believable since the country crooner had just announced that she had decided to scrap all her wedding plans and elope instead. But she cleared that up, too.  "FYI ....Brandon & I are getting married & no I am not pregnant. We are eloping for one reason only. We both want an intimate ceremony," she tweeted.

David Letterman talked about all the signs that summer is almost over.  The days are shorter, the leaves are starting to change . . . and George Clooney just picked his fall girlfriend.
Simon Cowell and his pregnant girlfriend Lauren Silverman reunited Wednesday in the South of France.  And they're supposedly talking about their FUTURE. A source says, quote, "He is very pleased that her divorce is finalized, and he is excited about spending time with Lauren.  He wants to make sure that she and the baby are doing okay. He is getting more and more excited about the baby."  Another source adds, quote, "They are definitely an item.  They are making plans together for the future for themselves and the baby."

Meanwhile... have you ever wondered why Lauren's ex-husband Andrew Silverman isn't going after Simon?  Well, according to the "New York Post", it's because Simon asked him not to.  Sources say Simon called a SUMMIT with Andrew a few weeks ago, before the divorce was settle, in order to clear the air and make sure Andrew doesn't take their issues public. Apparently, it worked.

Here's a quick rundown of the latest "American Idol" rumors: "Idol" wants to give a judges' chair to Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.  The thinking is that "Idol" has become too much about celebrity judges, and they want someone who can actually find and develop TALENT.  But supposedly Scooter isn't really interested, because he likes his relative anonymity.  Sources say he, quote, "likes being able to go to the grocery store under the radar."  Meanwhile, word has it Jimmy Iovine will not return this season as a mentor . . . and Randy Jackson will be taking his place.
Good news, single heterosexual men and/or lesbians: Eva Longoria (the sexiest 38-year-old woman on Earth) is now officially single.  Sources say the former "Desperate Housewives" star split from boyfriend Ernesto Arguello this week after dating for roughly 4 months. The two met while Longoria was producing her dating show "Ready for Love." Ernesto was a bachelor on the program, but after the show went off the air, Eva decided to take Ernesto for herself.  Eva and Ernesto were spotted canoodling in Spain as recently as two weeks ago, but once they got back to L.A., we're told they decided their busy lifestyles just didn't mesh.  Eva spends most of her time in L.A., and Ernesto is situated primarily in Miami, so they decided it would be better to split. But some sources aren't convinced it's completely over -- as one source put it, "They're just on hold right now."  Translation: if you want to scoop Eva up, you better act fast.
There's yet another wrinkle in Richie Sambora's mysterious absence from Bon Jovi.  A source claims Jon Bon Jovi is saving around $2 MILLION by NOT having Richie on the road with him.  Supposedly, Richie was making $2 million per month . . . plus 20% of the profits from the tour, while his fill-in guitarist, Philip "Phil X" Xenidis is only making about $10,000 a month.  The site suggests that Richie's departure is all about MONEY . . . however, that doesn't really make sense.  From all accounts, it sounds like Richie abruptly left the tour on his own back in April, and both Jon AND Richie have said that it had to do with some sort of, quote, "personal matter."  No one has elaborated beyond that.  If it WERE all about money that would mean Jon has been outright lying about Richie being able to come back whenever he wants . . . not to mention that you'd expect Richie to have SAID something about Jon abandoning him over GREED.
Phony Twitter celebrity death reports are just a part of our social media lives these days, but which famous star ends up being "fake-killed" more than any other?  Perhaps no surprise: it's Justin Bieber.  Synthesio, a global social media monitoring company, monitored #RIP celebrity rumor tweets that had been tweeted more than 500 times.  Justin's name came up most frequently, with death reports occurring, on average, every two weeks.  The most frequent reason for his death is a drug overdose, with a car crash in his Ferrari coming in a close second.  The second-most frequently-reported dead star on Twitter is Zayn Malik of One Direction.  Other celebs whose deaths were frequently reported on Twitter in the last few months include Rihanna and Chris Brown -- though not together, we assume.

In a statement, Synthesio executive Catriona Oldershaw says, "Rumors of major celebrity deaths are a constant feature of Twitter, but what is interesting about Justin Bieber is how prevalent and regular the reports are."  She added, "Reports of Zayn Malik's demise are particularly strange, as he is the only member of 1D who is a regular subject of these rumors." Oldershaw speculated, "It may be because Zayn is the only band member who is not a regular Tweeter, meaning that rumors about him are harder to dispel quickly."  As for why these death rumors spring up so frequently, Oldershaw explains, "Wider research indicates that it's often rival fans starting RIP rumors as a form of trolling."
The draw for celebrities to attend award shows each year isn't just the massive amounts of free publicity; it's the massive amounts of free stuff gifted to them. But along with the SoulCycle passes, Brooklyn Nets gear and Katy Perry's newest fragrance, the MTV Video Music Awards are also giving attendees a book on how to kick addiction.  In this year's gift bag, guests will receive a copy of "Ending Addiction for Good: The Ground-Breaking, Holistic, Evidence-Based Way to Transform Your Life," from the people at Cliffside Malibu, which happens to be the last rehab center Lindsay Lohan attended.

It's a surprising inclusion in the gift bag, but given how many of the show's attendees have experienced addiction issues, perhaps it's MTV's way of suggesting that some of its guests take action. It's especially notable since the reading material in last year's gift bags was the coming-of-age story "The Perks of Being A Wallflower." This year's nominees include Lady Gaga, who has spoken about her struggle with cocaine addiction, as has Bruno Mars, and Demi Lovato has been open about her own issues with drugs. Meanwhile, you have Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, who are proud potheads. And Cyrus' party anthem "We Can't Stop," which is nominated for four awards, is admittedly a song about dropping ecstasy and doing lines of cocaine in the bathroom.
