Mix 100.3 - All the Hits - Free Money Song!

Emily's Blog

Hello, my friends!
I am over the moon to be a part of the Dom and Jane Show. I am finally living proof of that old saying, “If you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.”
I was born in New York, although I call myself a Ken Caryl girl… A Chatfield graduate to be exact. And my many adventures have brought me everywhere from Europe to California. The stage of Shakespeare’s Globe, to the lights of the Las Vegas Strip. And after years of soul searching, two broken engagements, four different colleges, and millions of hours in the restaurant industry, here I am. Yappin yer ear off on Mix 100.
A quick breakdown of moi includes, but is not limited to:
1. I would gratefully eat sushi for each meal every day of my life if I could afford it.
2. My dirty little secrets include, but are not limited to: a full-on nail polish addiction, Bryan Fuller television series, live bar trivia, Goonies/Pretty Woman quotes, Daddy-Daughter meals, boxed-wine consumption, Marilyn Monroe and Beatles snapshot collecting, and The Gin Blossoms. I freaking love the Gin Blossoms.
3. My doggie, Kramer, is the cutest Shih Tzu on the planet; quite possibly the cutest dog in the world. It’s really not fair to other pups how ridiculously adorable my Kramer is.
4. Friends are my family, and my family is my life… And oh how I love to embarrass my sucker friends and family.
5. I, without fail, say what everyone is thinking but too scared to voice out loud. It’s a blessing… And a curse. (As I’m sure you know from listening to the show!)
Let's be friends! I'm good for a chuckle or two. Find me on Facebook. And please, keep listening to the Dom and Jane Show weekday mornings for hours of laughs, stories, and general merriment. You, my dears, rock my world.  Check out my Instagram, Facebook or blog below!

Just another charming little tidbit that fellow (fantastic) Coloradoans will understand fully. We can all realte to these moments, and have all learnedimportant lessons from said moments. (Hopefully.)
Despite our minor blemishes, I still say all the other states can suck it. :-)

I am a sucker for happy dog stories. And these 13 wee videos bring such joy to my heart. I get so much hope and love out of these reunions. If you have a moment or three today, scroll through and watch at least part of one.
And hug your dog for me.

Tarzan swung into the Arvada Center last weekend, (get it?!) and where to begin…
Oh so good.
The Arvada Center chose the adaption of the Disney movie Tarzan for its summer production. If you've ever seen the animated film you would be intrigued, I'm sure, to see how it would translate to the stage. (I know I was.) I mean, it's such an active story line, so exotic… Tarzan lives with apes and swings through trees, for cripe's sake! How the heck are they gonna pull this off?!

I love a good, juicy mystery. And I stumbled upon this article with 13 unsolved Hollywood mysteries. Tres interesting. Most of these I had never heard of, which intrigued me even more. I bet at the time, it was a total circus... and now, these scandals are barely a memory. I did learn some interesting things, like the all-time best villain in movie history, Christopher Walken, was on board the boat that Natalie Wood drowned from. Wha-whaaat??! And Bob Crane of Hogan's Heroes... What a kinky dude.
Hope you enjoy this totally random tidbit.

I love it when old and new collide. In the style of Neil Young, Jimmy Fallon rocked the hit "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea. And that horde of grandpas behind him? Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Jimmy is bringing classic music to younger audiences with his covers, and I love him for it. Enjoy this quirky version... and then go get drunk on the mini bar.

You never know who you will run into working at a radio station, and yesterday as I was coming out of the bathroom, I came face to face with Mary Lambert. (Yes, I washed my hands.) First thing I said was, "Can I hug you?!"
Back in March, my bestie Kat married her fiance Erin, and the Mary Lambert song "She Keeps Me Warm" was a huge part of the ceremony. Mary's song is also the chorus of the Macklemore song "Same Love", which has become an equal rights anthem... and makes me cry due to it's beauty.
As we chatted, I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. Mary is seriously delightful and kind, modest and strong. She has a new album coming out soon, and when asked about it, she let out a huge sigh and said, "I'm just so so so proud of it."
Keep an ear out for her new single "Secrets", which is a bouncy tune that is hard not to love. It's all about acceptance and joy... and there's even a line about mom jeans.
This video is me gushing to Mary about her hit SKMW, and its placement in my life.
I heart you, Mary Lambert.

I was not born here, however I did most of my important growing up here. I consider myself a Coloradoan, you betcha. Yet after high school, I moved away to see what else was out there besides Fun Plex and Clement Park. After nearly a decade in non-5280 places, I ended up right back here. Where I belong. So to all of those I have met along the way, who I've bragged to about how fantastic my glorious Colorado was, to all those poor souls that have never been here, I give you this. A pretty epic list that will turn you into a Coloradoan wannabe.

I have a bit of a love-affair with the 1960s. Sure, Don Draper may be the reason for my obsession. But whatevs. The 60s were so freaking cool and they didn't even know it... Which makes them even cooler.
So as I scrolled through Facebook this morning, and saw a picture of stunning women from what appeared to be the late 50s or early 60s, of course I clicked on it. And what popped up were pictures of gut-wrenchingly beautiful and awesome people from days past.
The photos span from the 40s to the 70s... and every one of them made my skin tingle.
I am in love with these pictures.
Like, they're so fantastic that a part of me doesn't even believe they're real because cool that cool can't exist, can it??!?
And HELLO, young Harrison Ford. Yowza.
Anyhoos... enjoy.
I'm going to go cry in the bathroom because I know I will never be this wonderful.

I worked in the restaurant industry for what felt like 100 years, so stories like this make me smile. I have waited on everyone from Tom Jones to Drew Barrymore... But my most memorable tips have been from Average Joes. One dude knew I had car problem, and needed $300 worth of work; he left me a $300 dollar tip. And once, no joke, a guy bought me a plane ticket to go see Gentleman Caller. (In the beginning of our relationship, he was still in the Navy stationed in Florida.) Random acts of kindness are alive and well.

If you want to know how to take the perfect selfie, you might want to ask an expert.
And who's more of an expert than KIM KARDASHIAN?!

Here are three tips from Kimmy K on taking a good selfie:

1.) Use a Mirror. This one seems obvious. Why WONDER how it's going to look? When you take a picture in a mirror, you know EXACTLY how it's going to look.

2.) Go Black and White. You always want the best lighting you can get. But when it's lacking, black and white helps de-emphasize the shadows and other lighting imperfections.

3.) Hold the camera up high. Your face looks better and THINNER when you're stretching your neck a little to look up.

Our pic proves her tips are gold.
