Book for May: The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year

For May of 2016, I turned to Emily, who loves to read as much as I do. When I asked for her suggestion, she immediately offered up this tasty treat from Andy Cohen. If you’re a foodie AND a reader, you’ll appreciate it. Here is Emily’s wine-stained review:
Some books capture your heart and enchant your imagination.

Some books open your mind to experiences you never thought were possible.

Some books teach you priceless lessons and leave you forever changed.

THIS is not one of those books.

“The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year” is 365 days of fabulous, fluffy fun. It is indulgent yet thoughtful, saucy yet kind, and I ripped through it in a weekend. It is the book equivalent of binge-watching an entire season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: a complete guilty pleasure.

I first became familiar with Cohen as the Executive Producer of Top Chef, one of my long-time fave shows. And we have Andy Cohen to thank (or blame) for the Real Housewives reality series. He also hosts Watch What Happens Live!, a late-night talk show with cocktails. Basically, he’s a walking, talking, breathing version of Pop Culture.

I am not a big biography reader, and this was my first time dipping into the ‘personal diary’ genre, yet I was so so pleased. While some of the names he drops are totally foreign to me (and there are a LOT of them) I got caught up in his dizzying year of friends, parties, love, and Tinder. And, I mean – come on! He’s best friends with the real life Carrie Bradshaw! So there’s that.

If you’ve ever watched Bravo and smiled, this book will bring you joy. Look for it at any of the Tattered Cover locations, mention Dom’s Book Club on Mix 100, and get this book for 20% off. Hunker down with a martini and enjoy.
