Alicia Keys recently released the official music video for “Lifeline” from the soundtrack for the new reboot of The Color Purple.
The video was directed by Diane Martel, who previously collaborated with Keys for her past hits “If I Ain’t Got You” and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again.”
“I can be your lifeline/ Stay with you ’til the sunrise/ When you’re low/ It don’t mean you’re alone/ I’ll be by your side/ Oh, I can be the reason/ That you don’t feel your demons/ When you’re low/ It don’t mean you’re alone/ I’ll be by your side,” Keys sings on the track.
The Color Purple is a coming-of-age period musical drama film directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay by Marcus Gardley, based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It is the second film adaptation of the novel, following the 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg.
The album features songs from the musical sung by Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, H.E.R., Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, and Fantasia Barrino.
The film stars Fantasia Barrino in her film debut as Celie, along with Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi. Barrino and Brooks reprise their roles from productions of the stage musical.
