Global alt-pop superstar Billie Eilish recently dropped a video for “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack.
The video shows Eilish sorting through a collection of Barbie clothes based on her own red-carpet outfits.
“Think I forgot / How to be happy / Something I’m not / But something I can be / Something I wait for / Something I’m made for / Something I’m made for,” Eilish sings in the piano ballad, which she recorded alongside frequent collaborator and brother Finneas at his home studio in Los Angeles.
“We made this song for Barbie and it means the absolute world to me. This movie is gonna change your lives and hopefully the song will too. Get ready to sob,” Eilish had previously announced on Instagram.
The upcoming Barbie movie soundtrack will feature a star-studded lineup, including tracks from Lizzo, HAIM, Charli XCX, Tame Impala and more.
Barbie The Album, the musical companion to the movie, will drop via Atlantic Records on July 21, the same day the movie releases.
Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig, who wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach. Based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel and inspired by the 1994 non-fiction book “Reviving Ophelia” by Mary Pipher, the film is the first live-action Barbie film after several computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films.
The film stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, alongside a large ensemble supporting cast.
