Lollapalooza organizers dropped DaBaby from the festival’s lineup just hours before he was supposed to perform on Sunday, August 1, because of the homophobic comments he delivered onstage during his set at Rolling Loud Miami a week ago.
“Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” reads a statement from Lollapalooza released Sunday morning. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.”
Young Thug, who was previously scheduled to perform at 4 pm on Sunday, performed in DaBaby’s scheduled slot of 9 pm on Sunday night. G Herbo performed in Young Thug’s afternoon slot.
DaBaby had received severe criticism for comments during his performance at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on July 25.
DaBaby had said to the crowd, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up!”
DaBaby had later defended the comments he made during Rolling Loud Miami in a lengthy series of 19 videos.
Several artists spoke out against DaBaby’s comments, including Dua Lipa, who collaborated with DaBaby on her remix of the Future Nostalgia song “Levitating,” Elton John, Demi Lovato and Madonna.
“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments,” Dua Lipa wrote in an Instagram story. “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
