Dr. Dre Says He Suffered Three Strokes After 2021 Brain Aneurysm

During a recent interview with James Corden on SiriusXM‘s “This Life of Mine with James Corden, Dr. Dre revealed that he suffered three strokes in 2021 after his brain aneurysm.

“It definitely makes you appreciate being alive, that’s for sure. It’s something you can’t control, it just happens. During those two weeks, I had three strokes,” Dre told Corden.

Dre recalled going to the hospital after he woke up with a feeling behind his right ear that turned into “the worst pain.”

“I got up and went about my day, and I thought I could lay down and take a nap,” Dre said. “My son and a female friend were like ‘no, we need to take you to the hospital. Next thing you know, I’m blacking out, I’m in and out of consciousness and I end up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks. I’m hearing doctors come in ‘you don’t know how lucky you are.’ I asked questions about what I could’ve done to prevent this, no one could give me an answer.”

When asked whether he could’ve prevented the aneurysm by focusing harder on his physical health, Dre replied, “Nobody could give me an answer. I had no idea that I had high blood pressure or anything like that because I’m on my health s—. I’m lifting weights, I’m running, I’m doing everything I can to keep myself healthy.”

He added that he learned the condition was “hereditary” and unpreventable. “High blood pressure in Black men, that’s just what it is. They call it the silent killer. You just have no idea, so you know, you have to keep your s— checked.”
