Dua Lipa Accusers Drop ‘Levitating’ Copyright Infringement Suit

A Florida reggae band that had filed a lawsuit against pop superstar Dua Lipa for copyright infringement over her smash hit song “Levitating” has decided to drop the case.

Florida reggae band Artikal Sound System filed the lawsuit last year alleging that the British singer’s “Levitating” was a ripoff of their 2017 song “Live Your Life.”

“Levitating” had spent 68 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and was the No. 1 Hot 100 song of 2021. The song was released in 2020 on Lipa’s second studio album Future Nostalgia.

Arkital Sound System had named Lipa and her label Warner Records in the suit and sought profits owed to them due to the success of “Levitating.”

However, in a filing on Wednesday, June 7, attorneys for both Artikal Sound System and Lipa asked the judge to permanently dismiss the case.

The filing came just two days after U.S. District Judge Sunshine S. Sykes ruled strongly for Lipa, saying that there was no sign that anyone involved in creating “Levitating” had “access” to the earlier song.
