Dua Lipa Named Britain’s Most Played Artist Of 2020

Pop superstar Dua Lipa was recently named Britain’s Most Played Artist of 2020.

Lipa’s songs were played more than anyone else’s on U.K. radio and television last year, mainly a string of hit singles from her BRIT award-winning second album Future Nostalgia.

With an upbeat retro pop and disco sound, the album was released four days after the start of the U.K.’s first national lockdown in March 2020 and became the soundtrack for many during the pandemic.

Two singles from the album – “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical” – made the top 10 most played tracks of the year.

The Weeknd‘s ‘Blinding Lights’ was named last year’s Most Played Track. The Canadian singer is fresh off winning his first ever BRIT Award for International Male Solo Artist last month.

Lipa said she is incredibly proud that she was the most played artist on radio and TV across the U.K.

“I so wanted Future Nostalgia to bring some happiness during such a difficult time. Thanks to everyone who supported it and also to PPL, who do important work in making sure artists and musicians are paid when their music is played,” she added.

The winners were selected by music licensing company PPL, which monitors the music played on TV and radio and in pubs and clubs in the United Kingdom.
