Dua Lipa Sued For Copyright Infringement Over ‘Levitating’

Pop superstar Dua Lipa has been sued for copyright infringement over her hit song “Levitating.”

Florida reggae band Artikal Sound System filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, March 1, alleging that the British singer’s “Levitating” is a ripoff of their 2017 song “Live Your Life.”

“Levitating” had spent 68 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and was the No. 1 Hot 100 song of 2021. The song was released in 2020 on Lipa’s second studio album Future Nostalgia. It became the longest-running top 10 song ever by a female artist on the chart.

Arkital Sound System have named Lipa and her label Warner Records in the suit and are seeking profits owed to them due to the success of “Levitating.”

According to court documents, the suit claims that Lipa and the people she was working with heard “Live Your Life” and then proceeded to make a copy of it by creating “Levitating.”
