Kanye West Officially Changes Name To ‘Ye’

Kanye West, who was born Kanye Omari West, has officially changed his name to Ye.

According to a communications officer at the Los Angeles Superior Court, a Los Angeles judge granted the rapper’s name change request.

“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” Judge Michelle Williams Court said in court documents.

Kanye had filed the request in August, citing “personal reasons.”

Ye had revealed his intention to change his name about three years ago, tweeting, “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.” The post arrived mere months after he released his 2018 studio album Ye.

He also told the radio host Big Bay then that he believed ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible.

“In the Bible it means you. So, I’m you. And I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one to just Ye, just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused-everything. It’s more of a reflection of who we are [as] beings,” he said.
