Katy Perry Drops Pokémon-Inspired ‘Electric’ Video

Katy Perry recently released the video for her new song “Electric,” a collaboration with the Pokémon franchise.

The song, released in celebration of the Pokémon video game series’ 25th anniversary, is part of the upcoming 14-track compilation Pokémon 25: The Album, which is due to arrive this fall via Capital Records.

The visual, directed by Carlos López Estrada, shows Perry and Pikachu looking back on early versions of themselves, like how Perry was struggling to sing before an audience and Pichu encouraging her from the sidelines.

“Oh, I can see it, see it/ If you believe it then you can/ There’s no reason that this life can’t be.Electric!” she sings in the video.

“WARNING: Video may awaken powers that are SHOCKING,” Perry tweeted.

Earlier, Perry said, “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated.”

“The song’s themes-resilience, igniting your inner light-have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters,” she added. “Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”
