Katy Perry To Leave ‘American Idol’ After Upcoming Season

Katy Perry has revealed that she is planning to leave “American Idol” after the upcoming season.

Perry announced her decision during a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote Season 22 of the reality music competition.

“This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio… so I think this will probably be my last season for Idol,” she told Jimmy Kimmel.

The 39-year-old singer is saying goodbye to “American Idol” after serving as a judge on the show for seven seasons.

Explaining her decision that surprised the audience, Perry said, “It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”

However, Perry did not not rule out a return to the show in future, saying, “Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day.”

She has shared the judges panel alongside soul and R&B legend Lionel Richie and country singer Luke Bryan since the “American Idol” reboot on ABC for Season 16 in March 2018.
