The man who shot Lady Gaga‘s dog walker and stole her French bulldogs last year has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after he took a plea deal.
James Jackson pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident happened on February 24, 2021, when Gaga’s dogwalker, Ryan Fischer, was walking her three dogs at about 9:40 p.m. in Hollywood. Fischer was confronted by two men who struggled with him before one guy fired at him before fleeing with two of the dogs. The third dog escaped. Two days later, a woman turned the dogs into the LAPD’s Olympic Community Police Station unharmed.
The LAPD arrested five individuals, including three for attempted murder and robbery: Jackson; Jaylin White; and Lafayette Whaley. Two others, Harold White and Jennifer McBride, were arrested for being accessories to attempted murder.
According to police officials, Lady Gaga getting linked to the incident was a coincidence, as the thieves were eyeing the French bulldogs, a breed with high value. The detectives said that they do not believe the thieves knew the dogs belonged to the artist.
