Lizzo Facing Another Lawsuit From Former Tour Employee

Hip-hop superstar Lizzo is facing another lawsuit from a former tour employee, wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels.

The new lawsuit comes over a month after three dancers filed a lawsuit against Lizzo for alleged sexual, religious and racial harassment.

Daniels, a professional clothing designer, designed the wardrobe for the dancers on Lizzo’s 2023 tour.

Daniels alleges that the singer, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, condones a sexualized, racially charged and illegal work environment. The suit alleges that Daniels was sometimes refused breaks during 20-hour shifts, and that she heard racist and fatphobic comments from members of Lizzo’s team.

She says Amanda Nomura, a member of Lizzo’s team, called Black women on the tour “dumb,” “useless,” and “fat,” according to the lawsuit.

Lizzo spokesman Stefan Friedman called the lawsuit a “bogus, absurd publicity stunt,” noting that it came the same day as Lizzo received a Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition.

“We will pay this as much attention as it deserves,” Friedman said. “None.”

Lizzo, a flag bearer of body positivity, was previously sued by three of her former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused the superstar of sexual harassment and the creation of a hostile work environment.

In their lawsuit, one dancer accused Lizzo of calling out her weight gain and firing her for recording a meeting. Other allegations mentioned in the lawsuit included Lizzo falsely accusing dancers of drinking on the job, leading to an “excruciating” audition.

In another particularly egregious allegation, the lawsuit claims that Lizzo pushed the dancers to attend a sex show in Amsterdam’s famed Red Light District and then pressured them to engage with the performers.

“Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas,” the lawsuit claims. “Lizzo then turned her attention to Ms. Davis and began pressuring Ms. Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club.”
