Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Tops Australian Singles Chart

For the sixth consecutive year, Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has topped the Australian singles chart during the Christmas season.

When Australia’s final chart of the year was published on Friday, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” climbed a step from No. 2. It was sweet revenge against Jack Harlow‘s “Lovin On Me,” which dethroned the 1994 Christmas hit for the Christmas No. 1 the previous week.

“Lovin On Me”‘s six-week reign at the top ended with a big fall to No. 7.

Interestingly, all the top 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart dated December 29 are Christmas songs. They are Brenda Lee‘s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (No. 2), Wham‘s “Last Christmas” (No. 3), Michael Buble‘s “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” (No. 4) and Ariana Grande‘s “Santa Tell Me” (No. 5).

Christmas songs take 18 of the top 20 singles this week. The only two non-Christmas songs to break the top 20 are “Lovin On Me” and “Greedy” by Tate McRae.

On the ARIA Albums Chart, Taylor Swift‘s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) holds at No. 1 for the ninth successive week, after becoming the longest running No. 1 album of 2023 last week.

Michael Buble‘s Christmas climbs from No. 4 to match its 2022 peak at No. 2. It first hit No. 1 in 2011 and has been back there another five times, for a grand total of 15 weeks on top.

Mariah also breaks back into the top 20, with Merry Christmas landing at No. 11, up from No. 32 last week. It peaked at No. 2 when it was first released in 1994.
