‘Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce’ Opens Atop Box Office With $21 Million Debut

Beyonce‘s new concert film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce, has opened atop the box office with a $21 million domestic debut.

The second No. 1 concert film to be released in 2023, Renaissance is far behind in theater collection to Taylor Swift‘s Eras, but this is the first time that a film has had a $20 million-plus opening at the box office in early December in the past two decades.

Swift’s concert movie, based on her ongoing Eras Tour, broke the record for the biggest debut of a film in that category by grossing $128 million in international box office.

Renaissance is followed by Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, earning $14.5 million at the box office this weekend.

Godzilla Minus One, which was released in Japanese theaters ahead of its U.S. release, is third with a $11 million collection.
