About two days after footage from a surveillance camera showing him physically assaulting his girlfriend at a hotel in Los Angeles in March 2016 surfaced in the media, Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued an apology.
The footage published on Friday (May 17) by CNN from the surveillance video at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City shows Combs assaulting the pop & R&B singer Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, known professionally as Cassie.
A video uploaded by Diddy to social media on Sunday (May 19), shows him apologizing for his actions.
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that,” he says in the clip. “I was f—ed up, I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”
“I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab,” Combs added. “I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
The surveillance footage corroborated an allegation of physical abuse that Ventura included in her sex trafficking lawsuit filed against Diddy last November.
Cassie had alleged in her complaint that Diddy “became extremely intoxicated and punched [her] in the face” at the hotel. She claimed that Combs screamed at her when she tried to leave the room and followed her into the hallway of the hotel. She added that he threw glass vases at her, “causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape.”
