The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Becomes Most-Streamed Song On Spotify

The Weeknd‘s monstrous hit “Blinding Lights” has surpassed Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape Of You” to become the most-streamed song on Spotify.

According to @chartdata, “Blinding Lights” now touts 3.332 billion streams on the music-streaming platform, just above “Shape Of You.” The two tracks are the only ones to surpass the 3 billion mark on Spotify to date.

“Happy new years to blinding lights. the most streamed song of all time tonight @Spotify” the Weeknd tweeted.

“Blinding Lights” was released on November 29, 2019, as the second single from the Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours. The song was written and produced by the Weeknd alongside Swedish musicians Max Martin and Oscar Holter, with fellow Canadian musicians Belly and DaHeala receiving additional writing credits.

“Blinding Lights” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and went on to set new records as the song with most weeks spent in the top 5 and top 10, as well as the first song to hold a spot in the top 10 on the chart for an entire year.

It is the longest charting song by a solo artist on the Hot 100 of all time, spending 90 weeks on the chart.
