The Weeknd‘s HBO series “The Idol” has been canceled after its inaugural season.
“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” a spokesperson for HBO said in a statement. “After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”
The statement did not specify the reason for pulling the curtains after the controversial first season of “The Idol.”
The Weeknd co-created the series with Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim and also starred in the series as Tedros.
The TV series was reportedly watched by 913,000 viewers across all platforms on its premiere in June.
